5th Annual Sock Drive

May 30 2016, In the community, News

In May 2016, the DeSimone Foot and Ankle Centre teamed up with Dr. Giroux Skin Clinique and Pandemonium Hair salon to launch the 5th Annual Sock Drive for the homeless of Greater Sudbury. We collected new socks and gently used winter boots in an effort to keep our homeless’ feet dry, warm and healthy.

The drive was our way of giving back to our community.

All socks were distributed through local social service agencies serving the homeless.

Greater Sudbury has three emergency shelters. Currently there are 1419 homeless people in the Greater City of Sudbury. The busiest months for shelter usage in the city are June to September.

We are especially concerned that the lack of warm dry socks and boots creates a greater risk of foot problems for the homeless. For homeless people, walking is their main means of transportation regardless of the weather. The need is great for proper footgear for hundreds of men, women and children who live on our streets.

On Saturday May 28th, 2016 we held our special Saturday Donation Clinic, where one hundred percent of all proceeds were donated to the homeless. It was a great success and our team would like to thank all the patients who participated on such a beautiful weekend.

We are overjoyed at the immense success so far and cannot wait to show you the rest of the results in the upcoming days. Remember like Julie says: Be the change you want to be in this world.
